Johannesburg Woman Wins R75 Million PowerBall Jackpot
An unemployed woman from Johannesburg has been revealed as the biggest PowerBall winner of 2023 so far, after coming forward to claim a jackpot worth R75 million from 17th March.
The jackpot had been climbing for more than six weeks before a single ticket matched all the numbers - 21, 22, 27, 41 and 43, plus the Powerball of 3.
It has not taken long for the winner to come forward, and it has emerged that she only played occasionally when she could afford to do so, rather than taking part every week.
She picked her numbers with her husband for this draw, buying the ticket at Spar Kingfisher. She said: “When I checked the results at home and I realised that I had won, I became very excited. I was always hopeful that I would one day win the jackpot.”
Before coming forward, the winner kept her ticket in her bag for safety. Now that her win has been confirmed, she is excited about the future.
“Now that I have won the PowerBall jackpot, I am looking forward to living comfortably. I am going to buy a house and invest in my children's education,” she said.
The largest PowerBall jackpot of all time was won in February 2019, when an anonymous man from Cape Town landed R232 million.
PowerBall draws take place every Tuesday and Friday evening, with a PowerBall Plus draw following straight afterwards to provide another opportunity to win.
