Sportstake

Sportstake gives you the chance to win prizes by predicting the results of sports matches from around the world. There are several different games – Sportstake 13, Sportstake 8 and Sportstake 4 are soccer prediction games, while there’s also Sportstake Cricket and Sportstake Rugby. Find out everything you need to know about all the games here, including how to play and the prizes you can win.

Sportstake 13

In Sportstake 13, you are required to predict the outcome of 13 soccer games. These matches are taken from a variety of leagues and competitions, including the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga and the European Champions League.

A fixture list is published twice a week: one on a Sunday showing the midweek games and one on a Thursday for the weekend fixtures. The aim of Sportstake 13 is to predict as many results as possible. You need to get at least 10 right to win a prize, and all 13 to land the top prize. You don’t need to predict the exact score, only whether it will be a win for the home team, a draw, or an away win.

How to Play

You can play online or in-store, but must make sure you enter at least 30 minutes before the start of the first fixture on the list. Here’s how to take part:

If you mark the ‘Multi-Play’ box and select at least one outcome for any of the fixtures, for example a ‘Home win’ and a ‘draw’, you will pay an additional R2 for each combination you enter. The maximum wager you can make is R2,000.

Propick

Rather than making the predictions yourself, you can just choose the ‘Propick’ option. This is a fast way of playing where your selections are generated in an instant. The predictions are partly based on statistics - taking into account previous matches between the competing teams - and partly randomised. It is not possible to play both Propick and your own selections on one betslip.

Prizes and Odds of Winning

The prize pool for Sportstake 13 is 50 percent of the money raised from ticket sales. As such, there are no fixed prizes; instead a percentage of the prize pool is allocated to each division. The following table shows the different ways to win Sportstake 13, along with the odds of winning and the percentage of the prize pool given to each division.

Sportstake 13 Prizes and Odds
Prize Division Correct Predictions Odds of Winning* Percentage of Prize Pool
1 13 1 in 1,594,323 30%
2 12 1 in 62,320 15%
3 11 1 in 5,110 20%
4 10 1 in 697 35%

If nobody predicts all 13 results correctly, the prize pool will roll over to the first division for the following game. In the unlikely event that there are no winners in any of the other divisions, the money for that particular category will be split between the prize divisions below. If nobody wins in division four, the money will roll over to the top prize for the following draw.

Sportstake 8

In Sportstake 8, you have to predict what will happen in eight football matches rather than 13. The key difference is that in Sportstake 8 you must predict both the first-half outcome and the second-half outcome of the game. For example, if you think the home team in a particular match will start well but then the away team will fight back, you may wish to predict the home team will win the first half and the away team will win the second half.

The eight fixtures to feature will be announced in advance and will include matches from South Africa, the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Italy or any other international soccer fixture that may be identified. Sportstake 8 can be played three times a week, with the exact days depending on the selected fixtures.

How to Play

It costs R2 for each entry. You can play online or in-store by following the steps below:

A valid wager consists of at least one selection per half for each of the matches. If you choose two or more outcomes for any half, you have to pay an extra R2 for each combination that is created. There is a maximum wager of R2,000.

Propick

If you decide to make your predictions via the 'Propick' option, your selections will be created automatically by the computer, using software that combines an analysis of previous soccer results between the competing teams and a random predictor. The available bet sizes for Propick are 4, 8, 16, 24, 32, 64, 128 and 256.

Prizes and Odds of Winning

You win prizes if the outcomes of the first half and the second half of the featured matches are as you predicted. You must get all 16 correct to win the jackpot, but there are also prizes for getting 13 or more right. Fifty percent of the money raised from ticket sales goes to the prize pool, and then a percentage of this prize pool is allocated to each of the four divisions. The table below shows how the prize pool is shared out, along with the odds of winning in each division.

Sportstake 8 Prizes and Odds
Prize Division Correct Predictions Odds of Winning* Percentage of Prize Pool
1 16 1 in 43,046,721 40%
2 15 1 in 14,384,907 20%
3 14 1 in 4,782,969 15%
4 13 1 in 1,594,323 25%

The top prize rolls over to the following game if there are no winners. If there are no winners in the second division, the money is split between winners in the third and fourth divisions. If nobody wins in the third division, the prize pool is allocated to winners in the fourth division. In the unlikely event that nobody gets 13 predictions correct, the prize money for the fourth division goes to the first division for the following game.

Sportstake 4

Sportstake 4 works in a similar way to Sportstake 8, as you have to submit two predictions for each match. Fixture lists are released twice a week and there are always four soccer matches to wager on, taken from competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and English Premier League.

Rather than predicting the first-half outcome and second-half outcome like you do in Sportstake 8, you have to predict the first-half outcome and the full-time outcome.

How to Play

Sportstake 4 is only available online, unlike Sportstake 13 and Sportstake 8. Follow the same process to make your predictions, selecting ‘1’ on your online play grid for a home win, ‘X’ for a draw or ‘2’ for an away win. The home team is always shown first.

Each fixture will appear twice on your list, once for your first-half prediction and once for your full-time prediction, so you have to make eight selections in total. It costs R2 for a single entry.

Prizes and Odds of Winning

As with all Sportstake games, 50 percent of the money raised from ticket sales goes to the prize pool. To get a share of the prize money, you need to get at least six predictions correct out of eight. Match all eight correctly and you’ll win a slice of the jackpot. The Division 1 prize rolls over to the following game if there are no winners.

The following table shows all the different prize divisions, along with the percentage of the prize pool allocated to each one and the odds of winning.

Sportstake 4 Prizes and Odds
Prize Division Correct Predictions Odds of Winning* Percentage of Prize Pool
1 8 1 in 6,561 45%
2 7 1 in 2,187 27%
3 6 1 in 729 28%

Sportstake Cricket

Sportstake Cricket requires you to predict the outcome of 10 cricket matches from around the world. Fixtures are released just once a week and can include domestic and international matches.

How to Play

You can play Sportstake Cricket online. The game is not available from National Lottery retailers. It costs R5 per entry, and you can take part by following the steps below:

Cricket Toss

The supplementary Cricket Toss game costs an extra R2.50 per entry. You can only take part if you’ve entered the main Sportstake Cricket draw. To play Cricket Toss, you have to pick which team - home or away - will win the coin toss in each of the 10 matches. To win a prize, you need to get all 10 of your predictions correct.

Prizes and Odds of Winning

Get all 10 of your Sportstake Cricket predictions correct and you’ll win the jackpot. If multiple players predict all the outcomes correctly, the top prize is shared. If nobody wins, it will roll over to the following week.

Even if you don’t get all 10 predictions right, you can still win by matching seven, eight or nine of your picks. The table below shows the percentage of the prize pool that goes to each division. The odds are also displayed, based on a random selection of picks. In reality, the odds of each outcome are not random in the same way as a lottery draw.

Sportstake Cricket Prizes and Odds
Prize Division Correct Predictions Odds of Winning* Percentage of Prize Pool
1 10 1 in 59,049 30%
2 9 1 in 19,683 15%
3 8 1 in 6,561 20%
4 7 1 in 2,187 35%

Sportstake Rugby

In Sportstake Rugby, you can win great prizes by accurately predicting the outcome of rugby matches. It works in exactly the same way as Sportstake Cricket, with 10 fixtures released every week for you to wager on.

The matches might be from South Africa, England or another Tier 1 nation, or they could even be international fixtures. The 10 selected matches will usually take place on a Saturday, with draws taking place on a Sunday to calculate all the prize details.

How to Play

You can only submit your predictions online for Sportstake Rugby. You need to indicate whether you think each match will finish as a home win (1), draw (X), or away win (2). It costs R5 for a single entry, and there’s a limit of R2,000 on how much you can wager in one go.

Prizes and Odds of Winning

To win a Sportstake Rugby prize, at least seven of the results must match up with your predictions. The value of payouts always depends on the number of entries purchased for the draw and the number of winners, but it increases as you get more predictions correct.

The Division 1 prize goes to anyone who gets all their predictions correct, or rolls over if there are no winners. View the table below to find out about how the prize pool is distributed.
