How to play Powerball USA
Simply known as ’Powerball’ within the United States, Powerball USA is one of the biggest lottery games in the world. It is played across 44 states and three US jurisdictions - Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thanks to the internet, players from around the world can now use the lottery ticket concierge service to participate in games that had previously only been available to residents of the country hosting that particular lottery. Powerball USA draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10.59pm EST in Tallahassee, Florida.
Powerball USA has gained a huge following due to its minimum jackpot of US$40 million and the ability of the top prize to quickly reach nine-figure amounts after just a few rollovers. On Wednesday 13th January 2016, three ticket holders shared a record-breaking Powerball jackpot worth a total of $1.58 billion, eclipsing all other world lottery games. The prizes were claimed by the Lisa and John Robinson of Tennessee, the Florida-based Nickel 95 Trust and Marvin and Mae Acosta from California.
Another attraction of the Powerball USA is that all non-jackpot prizes are set at a guaranteed amount regardless of how many winners there are in each prize tier. The only exception is California, where all Powerball prizes apart from the jackpot are pari-mutuel, meaning that the final value of prizes won in that state is dependent on ticket sales as well as the number of winners in each tier.
Players can choose to boost any Powerball USA winnings, except the jackpot and Match 5 tier prizes, by including the Power Play option for a small additional fee. With this feature selected, winnings from all tiers except the jackpot and Match 5, are multiplied by a randomly selected Power Play number between 2 and 10. This feature does not apply to jackpot winnings or winnings from the Match 5 tier, both of which are simply doubled to $2 million if the ticket holder matches the Power Play number in the draw. The 10x Power Play feature only comes into play when the Powerball jackpot is worth $150 million or less. Power Play is not offered in California.

Playing Powerball USA at a Local Retailer
Players can purchase tickets from an authorised retailer in one of the participating US states or jurisdictions, although Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah currently do not sell Powerball tickets. If you live in one of these states, you will need to visit a nearby participating state to buy Powerball tickets.
All Powerball tickets purchased from authorised retailers should be signed and kept in a safe location to prevent them from being lost, damaged or stolen. Powerball tickets are bearer instruments, meaning that anyone who finds a valid but unsigned ticket is legally considered to be the rightful owner of the ticket. If you lost your Powerball entry, you really could miss out on a fortune!
